The incidence highlights the tendency of the executives indulged into overconfidence, too much optimism and the culture being maintained towards the risk seeking decisions. The theatrical art seeks, to deconstruct over the chain of events regarding to the deep water horizon blowout. It is essential to examine those events by applying the behavioural theories and concepts and psychological biases. It identifies the operational decisions made on to demonstrate the ma jor effects occurred on the corporate level. The complications of the disaster in terms of accountabilities and obligations are also discussed to emphasize on the magnitude of the consequences resulting from the inconsistent decision making process (Cooney et al., 2015). General System Management Texas City and the Deep-water Horizon was an ultra-deep-water was dynamically positioned, semi-submersible offshore drilling. The working of a Deep- water horizon was the second, semi-submersible constructed and classified into two forms. It was not dynamically positioned. The main management and the work of deep-water are set to operate the drilling off the southern coast of Louisiana. They use the various techniques used for implementing into many varieties, for addressing the fundamental strategies for operating the offshore-oil-drilling (Camilli et al., 2010). It was located on the seabed and below the surface and extended approximately higher into the rock. Deep-water Horizon management was based on the semi-submersible, basically designed for drilling down to the subsea shafts for oil exploration and manufacturing. It was basically designed to operate in water up to 8000 ft. to a deep level of water. The main management work was based on using the various techniques to oil spil l into a large amount. Sometimes it was been derived to Lucky and Illustrious. And it was termed as the most powerful rigs in the world (Cherry et al., 2010). Organisational structures, forms and culture The organisational structure and its forms, basically derive the shape of an administrative culture and attitude towards the plans, that are been designed according to the risks arises, throughout the history of the strategic ranges and operational failures. In the past years, the infrastructure of a management and its structure that made it difficult for their executives and the employees to make decisions quickly. Robert Horton who was appointed as a CEO in 1989 started a radical turnaround program to achieve the annual expenses. He removed the several layers of management after being appointed (Jefferson et al., 2011). He intended to increase the speed of managing decision making tasks. He designed the hierarchical structure of the departments into smaller; flexible teams charged and proper way of communications. He started taking the authority on decision making from the corporate sectors to the upstream business and downstream business. The next strategy was brought up by Browne, started building and creating a team spirit within the entrepreneurship among his staff, he extended the decision making responsibility for summiting the performance targets. As the next chief appointed, he started following the policy of cost cutting and especially in the staffing which was introduced by the Hortons. He totally changed organisation structure to achieve the tasks. The culture was well maintained for the employees to keep on building the work spirit in an organisation (Lee et al., 2012). Engineering risk, risk management The management risk is been flawed with the various business models that has been surrounded in one of the risk-taking, cost cutting, and principal efficiency improvement within the context of risk management of their assortment or properties. In the simple term safety can be expressed as the judgement of the risk. In order to maintain and manage the risks been face by the organisation and it is necessary to confront and manage the risk systematically and effectively. It is essential to know about which kind of risk has taken place and to mitigate or to organize the risk at an acceptable level. This generally applies equally to all the investors purchasing the stock of the year and granting the permission to all the employees to operate offshore (White et al., 2012). It is very important for the engineers and the executives to understand the risk because generally the risk is not been understood by them or take the risk differently. Engineers are generally apt to understand to sugges t that if risk cannot be resolved and measured, than the risk cannot be managed. Generally, Engineers think about the threats in terms about the possibility and significances. Executives generally tends to think of risks more in the form of risk and reward bigger the reward would be more the risk is worth taking. Portfolio Alignment In this optionally it is been enhanced on the basis of various stages in both absolute and relative terms against specific criteria and against and each other ranking. On a standalone and aggregated level, including the portfolio will look .Oil and gas is a continually evolving sector requiring players the rapid changes when company strategies were last developed. Companies need to update and respond to the changing landscape flexibility, proactively and competitively by incorporating and preserving the optionality in portfolios. They primarily focus on making the right modifications and the decisions. The main aim is to proper formulate the main task in the right way (Osofsky, 2011). It is very important to make the right modifications means to have strategic purposes at the particular time, which generally attracts and accept risks, complexity, cost and the impact on the business as usual. The main cause behind the tragic incident took place due to the failure in engineering part a nd that the composition and mixture of cement was not accurate as required and lead to such disaster. When the engineers were already familiar with the fact, about the inconsistency of the mixture can cause the disastrous calamity. The Enforced Offshore drilling suspension put in place in response to spill out to the harmful sources to the local energy industry because the oil industry employs of the nearest residents have created more than thousand oil related jobs. Business Value It can be referred to an informal terms that basically involves all forms of value that determine the health and the well-being of the firm so as the firm would be in long run. It establishes the value of the business which usually describes the overall worth of the business. Generally a business should have a fair value of business so as to have a variety of doing a business including the sale value, ownership. It is essential to set a goal for estimating the main object of the business value. In the deep water horizon the disaster calamity caused the main consequences of the business value in the market. The things were made regarding an event happened, which was important for the stock prices of BP and their competitors who provide the oil spill and the services. This generally provided both the organisation for the shareholders with knowledge keeping in mind to determine a plan and the activity or similar calamity should not occur in the near future (Reddy et al., 2012).There wer e several other organisations was involved in the analysing and influencing of the costs regarding to the market value of the company. It became an essential part to determine the events happened and to influence the market value of the BP. Before the calamity occurred stock price of the BP went high. After the tragedy took place the price of the dollar was fall down. But the stock price later on was on the large decrease and keep on declining in the share price. The management cycle should be in continuous form and must be planned to deliver the task. The cycles should rotate systematically when the liveliness of the people within an organisation is directed and managed in effectively. The Procedure of the cycle is as follows: Creating a Policy of an organisation- It was essential to set the policies in the market field that can be stated as a report that contains the financier aims and limitations as it relates to his investments. Investment Strategy for the future Development- This causes creating a strategy regarding the goods and the products which was used and has the worth to invest in the market areas that combines the profitable value and the market share. Implementation of the Plan - This causes the speculation towards the working strategy, capitalizing in a group which intends to implement the desired tasks so that to meets the users goals and constraint desires. Organisational Maturity- It can be derived as a measure of an administrations readiness and proficiency being expressed towards the people and its practices, data and its technologies. It is essential for an organisation to develop a mechanism for the future goals and resources. The organisation maturity is the main instrument in an organisation to help in assessing and majorly determine the degree of maturity to the implementation processes. For an organisation the level should be increased according to the organisation readiness and its experience. The disastrous calamity would not have occurred if such carelessness should be avoided on a large scale at the earlier stage to potentially preclude the disaster. The long-term effects of the mistake will make the engineers aware of the reliable mixture for the future projects. The spill has caused a resilient and financial impact on the energy industry. Although the efforts were made towards the disaster being caused to clean up the oil spill but there is still a chance of the long-term effects (Lubchenco et al., 2012). Despite from the entire calamity resulting from its negative effects, it also has some positive effects. It created a turning point for the engineering industry. Now the awareness is been increased after the calamity being occurred, the oil spill was a spinning point for the engineering industry. The organisation has increased the safety measures which have done the huge treads in increasing safety and drilling. The Oil spill commission action has helped in a group to help in post-oil spill operation and also help them to recover from this disaster. The spill has brought many laws and regulations to ensure that a similar disaster would not take place in near future. And soon this disaster would lead to the organisation to the safer side and will improved the engineering methods in an effort to prevent from this mistake would not happen again in future. Conclusion Through the reflections on the theory and its applications of system thinking it has been superficial for the approach made for its significance and its benefits to the portfolio management. Systems thinking provide a framework for the solution to the problems which varies to the sub-systems and components which keep on interacting with this approach. The Texas City and the deep water horizon, oil spill was the biggest calamity ever happened in the history with the oil spills. There were various oil industries suffered billions of dollars on this incident. There were several reactions kept in the place to mitigate the strategies after the spill effects. This was the biggest impact over the globally which were heavily felt by the global impact in the economy. This causes the biggest disaster for the marine animals, fishing, tourism and offshore exploration which was been stopped by this Oil Spill. Strict rule and regulations has applied so as the same disaster activity should not occu r in future. The oilfield service area companies were thus deeply impacted by the drilling and the other procedures seemed to be slightly importance with the respect to their share prices. This helps the other companies to be aware of the tragedy which happened that the same situation should not take place in near future. The final conclusion was being made in January 2011 was the oil spill was the consequence of a number of distinct risk factors, omissions and the mistake made by the other parties (Smith et al., 2010). Cigarette butts have been found in the stomachs of birds, dogs, cats, and squirrels. Littering can also be hazardous to ones health by attracting vermin and bacteria. My solution to the littering problem is to put more public trash cans and recycling boxes around each block. In result to utting more public trash cans and recycling boxes, I think my hometown should have a designated day to clean up the trash around the city. If the idea of recycling and cleaning up the town becomes popular and well known the town will make a change. Both of these solutions will result in minimizing the amount of trash in the environment and will help the township look cleaner. I believe this issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible. Unresolved problems Essay In what way does the inspector make you aware of his attitude towards other characters in the play? And how does Priestly use him as a dramatic device? Priestley was born in Bradford, 13th September, 1894. He became a successful playwright through much experience he gained before World War One. A major influence which encouraged Priestley with his plays began when he found himself surrounded by people who read a great deal, however there were no professional writers among these people. Not only that but Priestley found himself growing up most importantly into his fathers circle of socialist friends in which he found himself in positive debates about society Being a socialist, Priestley added this to the many themes of An Inspector Calls; to show the audience his values as a socialist, that life is to do with caring for each other and there should be equality no matter what you status is in society; Priestley exploits these problems of community throughout his play. We will write a custom essay on Unresolved problems specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Socialism is not apparent in Edwardian society where there is an evident class divide which results in poor living for those lower classes such as Eva Smith due to selfish, ignorant, bigheaded, snobbish characters like the Birling family who are capitalists only care about money and profit these are the total opposites to the socialist morals that Priestley believes everyone should have as Birling says, a man has to make his own way has to look after himself this is the total opposite to the caring and looking after each other morals of Priestley. The characters are living stereotypes that all fit into the characteristics of the seven deadly sins and are not aware of the consequences of their inexcusable behaviour. Like Shakespeare, Priestley is a very influential educator through his plays. He draws the reader in and makes them experience certain emotions such as anger, irritation and mystery to read on as the Inspector says, She wanted to end her life. She felt she couldnt go on any longer, the audience feels a sense of the suffering that Eva endured as if we are a part of the play. In this aspect Priestley is also an excellent entertainer for example, with the introduction of Inspector Goole who has an eerie and almost unnatural energy creates suspense and awkwardness which makes the audience more intrigued of what is going to come next in the build up of the play. Priestly creates a dramatic atmosphere here by using the Inspector as a dramatic device. Not only is An Inspector Calls partly a detective story with the Inspector trying to reveal the unsolved issue of how Eva Smith died, he inspected us alright. Here Sheila clearly states that although Inspector Goole already knew what the Birling familys response would be to his question he still carries out enquiries of the murder although he was more interested in finding out about their morals than the suicide. The play can be classed as a detective story with such a predictable story line; the Inspector generally has some pleasing eccentricities or striking characteristics. Also many detectives stories end with unresolved problems. The Inspector creates a tense mood through his authoritative investigative skills through to the silent exit whilst the Birlings are left astonished, He walks straight out, leaving them staring, subdued and wondering. SHEILA is still quietly crying. MRS BIRLING has collapsed into a chair. as an effect of the Inspector as a dramatic device of Priestleys creation to leave the reader captivated within the play and eager to uncover the truth. On the other hand An Inspector Calls can also be categorised as a morality story due to the depiction of the seven deadly sins fused into each character. .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c , .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c .postImageUrl , .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c , .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c:hover , .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c:visited , .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c:active { border:0!important; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c:active , .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9d058494b57ef0555034a8c1a4b68f1c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Journey's End EssayMost morality plays have a leading character who represents either humanity as a whole (Inspector Goole/voice of Priestley) or an entire class (upper class the Birlings, working class-Eva Smith). What also adds to the impact of Priestleys play is the fact that it was written before both world wars and before the Titanic sank which creates irony when Mr Birling comments, The Germans dont want war. Nobody wants war. From this we can tell that Mr Birling talks far too much, he is also very foolish and ignorant. The audience at that time would be very irritated at Mr Birlings comments as they have been through tormenting ordeals. As it is ironic Priestley can relate to the reader making the story more intriguing. The play opens with the Birling family enjoying their celebration it is thought that they are quite pleasant, however as Mr Birling is caught up in the moment he blurts out his true motives for the marriage of Gerald and his daughter, when Crofts and Birlings are no longer competing but are working together-for lower costs and higher prices implying that the engagement was all a business deal. It also shows that Mr Birling is greedy and selfish wanting more profit for lower wages. After a toast and some drinks, as if the Birling family have sensed Inspector Gooles presence their mood changes dramatically. Inspector Gooles character is very blunt and also has a sense of massiveness which creates authority and influence in the response of the Birlings and forces them to confess their mistake from which we can identify their flaws, Why should you do any protesting? It was you who turned the girl out in the first place, the Inspector here is telling Mr Birling off with powerful sentences clearly shows his dislike for their behaviour. He only uses this power over Mr Birling and Mrs Birling, whereas he treats Sheila, Gerald and Eric in a more pleasant manner however he still not lenient to any character, each of you helped to kill her. Inspector Goole confronts the Birlings trying to make them realise how much havoc they have caused and it is not enough to apologise or offer money although it shows what a capitalist Birling is when he states, Look, Inspector-Id give thousands yes, thousands. The only possible apology that comes anywhere near to reasonable is if the Birlings repent and change their ways and obviously from the above quote Mr Birling is showing no signs of this what so ever as he assumes everything can be bought with money which simply is not true. In addition although some of the Inspectors comments are out of order as an official as he says, I think you did something terribly wrong and youre going to spend the rest of your life regretting it, this is not appropriate because the Inspector has no hard evidence that the Birlings are to blame and also hypothetically he is to be non biased and also maintain a calm tone. But as the reader knows there is a mystery waiting to be solved and that the Birlings are being very stubborn about how much information they reveal, so the Inspectors actions could be thought to be acceptable. However if we relate to modern society police officer, even if they are sure that they know the suspect has committed the offence under no circumstances can they suggest their views as this is not professional. Not only that but because the Inspector beforehand knows the Birlings history from which they can not hide. So this gives an eerie touch to the inspectors personality and leaves the readers trying to figure out who the inspector maybe in disguise. The eerie effect links to the Inspectors name Goole which is a pun on ghoul suggesting that he may be a ghost in human form which is a dramatic device used to make the reader suspicious and want to know the truth.

Oliver Twist Essay Example
Oliver Twist Essay Example Oliver Twist Paper Oliver Twist Paper Essay Topic: Oliver Twist Oliver Twist is a prose fiction written by Charles Dickens. It is a story written in the nineteenth century. It is a story about a flump boy who lost his parents in the early age. In his bid for several he meets a lot of people some with negative impact on his life and some with positive impact on his life. It is my intention in this essay to discuss four characters (two with positive effect and two with negative effect on Oliver Twists life) I will write about the first character who is Fagin. What does he affect Olivers life? Fagin made to Oliver an old mattress so he could sleep in it. He gave him a meal to eat and to make Oliver love him or to make him his friend. How he affects Oliver? Fagin tries to make Oliver like him at the first time the met and to seen kind to Oliver, so now we know his first point and the second point to make Oliver one of his boys but as we know that he failed a achieve his aim. Because Oliver knew that Fagin is a thief. Oliver discovered that when he send him to sell the books and a old gentleman came to see what he have in or even to buy a book. Mr. Bumble, on hearing this story then relayed it to the gentleman in the white waistcoat. (Noah) was been all but murdered sir-by young Twist.. he has likewise attempted, sir, to murder the female servant.. and his missus.. and his master, too, I think you said, Noah? Noah replied that Mr. Sowerberry was out, but if he hadnt have been then Oliver would have tried to murder him as well. Once again, the story was wholly elaborated upon, portraying Oliver as a mass murderer. It is comical how such stories can be concocted, but sad when the reality is that all such people in the same position as Oliver will now suffer. Mr. Sowerberry beat Oliver upon his return. He later run away and was befriended by the Artful Dodger (real name Jack Dawkins). He was then led to London and Fagin, a leader of a gang of pickpockets. Fagin lives off of a small side alley, in what can only be described as a furnished squat. A few beds, shelves and cupboards decorated the rooms but the main abundance within the rooms were handkerchiefs. Although Oliver did not know it, they were all stolen. Fagin also had a collection of jewellery which Oliver saw one morning, but Fagin dismissed it as his worldly possessions. This was home to Fagin and his gang of pickpockets, which were boys, some not much older than Oliver. They had all be trained to work for Fagin and, judging by the resulting rewards, were very good at what they did. Instead of being homeless, starving and eventually dying the boys had dived into a world of crime to stay alive and provide a warm home for themselves. For such children, and that is what they all still were, it shows great poverty and deprivation. Oliver was taken out with Jack Dawkins and Charley Bates to learn his new found trade, although they were foiled and Oliver got caught, although his innocence in the act was later proved. The man that had been robbed, Mr. Brownlow, took pity upon Oliver and took him in to look after him as Oliver had fallen ill. The illness was probably the result of the long journey to London, which he had undergone on foot. In contrast to his previous experiences, Oliver was well looked after, fed and cared for. He lay in bed for a few days, being nursed on and checked and fed regularly. All this, against what would most probably have been the case of neglection at the workhouse and death quickly afterwards. In summary, because of his background and situation, Oliver was taken advantage of time and time again. It seems that children were shown no mercy and used for financial and personal gain. Mrs. Mann, the Board and Fagin all tried to use Oliver to increase their own quality of life and boost their financial income. This shows how cruel and ruthless situations were and the social deprivation that Oliver was forced through, like so many other orphans. Conditions were harsh for those at the bottom end of the social ladder and Dickens illustrates this well throughout the novel, as well as offering a contrast to these conditions with the rich Mr. Brownlow and his kind and generous personality. Along the way, he was the only person that showed trust of any kind towards Oliver and offered him a chance to repay that trust, which eventually he did.
